Same-day imaging in Ontario
Same-day X-rays are often possible because many clinics take walk-ins. Same-day ultrasounds are harder, but a phone call and some flexibility can help.
X-rays: usually your best bet for same day
Many community clinics take X-ray walk-ins during opening hours, so you can often go the day you get your requisition. Walk-in policies and hours vary, and may change depending on how busy a clinic is. See how to get an X-ray in Ontario.
Ultrasounds: call first
Ultrasounds are normally booked ahead, but same-day or next-day spots do come up. To improve your chances:
- Call as soon as the clinic opens. Cancellations are often filled early.
- Ask to go on a cancellation list. Give them your number.
- Be flexible on location. Check a few clinics near you.
- Have your requisition ready to send. Many clinics accept it by fax, email or online upload, which lets them book you faster.

Keep the wait for your report in mind
Keep in mind that there is usually at least 24 hours before the test is read by a radiologist and the report is sent to your ordering clinician. If you are having worsening symptoms and are trying to get a test sooner, be aware of these delays and consider whether you should visit an emergency department instead.
